Have you ever tried making perfect soft boiled eggs in your Thermomix? I get questioned a lot about how I get my eggs to be perfect every time I make them. So many people I know have tried and failed miserably and then never tried to make them again. My family have eggs nearly every single morning. I can assure you that I have trialed and tested this to perfection. I want to share it with you now too. This is so you can also have perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs ever single time!
Firstly, I want to run you through what could cause you to fail. The things that will cause you to end up with hard boiled yolks or runny whites! There are a few important things to consider to getting your eggs perfect. This includes: the size of your eggs, the starting temperature of your water, the quantity of your water and the amount of eggs you use. If you get these variables right then your eggs will turn out every single time.
The Size Of Your Eggs
It’s a good idea to stick to the same or similar size eggs when using them for soft boiled eggs. This is really helpful as even 100g difference in size could change the cooking time by 1 or 2 minutes. I use x-large sized eggs that average around 800g. Choose your size and stick to it. When you perfect your time you know what size egg that time will work for.

The Starting Water Temperature
The next aspect to consider is the starting temperature of your water. It is really important to take note of this. This is because if you are starting with boiling water you will reduce the time. This is not a bad thing as it could speed up your cooking time. However, it could also set you up for failure. If you do not get the timing right, you will not get your perfect soft boiled eggs. You can adjust your timing once you choose your starting water temperature. I seem to have a habit now just to use normal cold tap water. It is definitely not warm tap water but it is also not freezing cold water either.
Consistency in the starting water temperature is key. However, it’s also very important to remove the eggs as soon as they are cooked. Then immediately put them under running water to cool them. If you do not they will continue to cook. This is just another reason you will not have success in creating the perfect soft yolk.

Quantity Of Water
The starting quantity of water is another variable in the perfecting egg equation. The more you have the longer it will take to heat up. Be sure to have enough in the bowl so it doesn’t all evaporate during cooking though. Choose an amount and use it. I always start with 500g due to habit from filling it up for most things I cook. This amount does take a little longer in the cooking process but it just seems to work for me.

Amount Of Eggs
Lastly, the amount of eggs you are cooking could vary the time as well. If I am completely filling up the basket I add 1 extra minute to my cooking time. It may not seem like a long time but it makes a big difference in ensuring the egg whites are cooked through and not runny. The bigger difference in timing will come in if you use the steaming dish to cook lager quantity of eggs. It takes longer for the steam to reach the dish. This means you could be cooking for an extra 5 minutes for x-large eggs. Just another variable you will have to consider.
For my family of 4 the basket is usually sufficient to making eggs. Therefore, I am going to specify the timings I use for this. However, you may need to cook more eggs then what can fit in the basket. Use these steps in guiding you to using the steaming dish instead.

Perfect Soft Boiled Egg Timing
Here are the exact steps I use to get my perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs:
- 6 x-large organic eggs
- 500g cool tap water (not hot)
- Add water (500g) to bowl.
- Place basket in bowl and add eggs (6).
- Cook for 12 minutes/100 degrees/speed 2.
- Remove eggs IMMEDIATELY from bowl and run under cold water until eggs cool.

Now you can perfect your soft boiled eggs! Remember to write down your timing, egg size, starting water temperature and quantity. That way you will have perfect soft delicious egg yolk every single time! Enjoy and be sure to share a photo in FAYI Private Facebook Group for others to see too.
