A journey with FAYI – It’s more than just Greek food

Food is a journey. It tells a story. Each person’s story is unique to them and so is the food we choose to eat. This is my story and journey with food that tells you about me, my family, culture, passion with health and I hope it inspires you to try something new or tell your own journey with food.

A Journey With Food

Food for me has always been a journey. It’s how I tell my story, what changed it and me and my families path. It’s what shapes our life. It connects us with friends, brings our families together, keeps us connected to our culture and always something we are learning and growing with.

It’s been the biggest path created in my life. From a little girl it was wrapped in culture and traditions. It had me sitting in my family kitchen rolling perfectly formed koulouria with my grandma at Easter. We got to enjoy huge souvla affairs with all my cousins and family. It connected us, it was celebrated and appreciated.

When kids came along, my food journey changed along with them. It’s a continuous growing and learning journey that I love to share with you.

I believe everyone has their own story. It is on that journey that a time might come that something in you changes and gets you ready for a different path. Our lives are full of these directional changes and there’s always something to learn through them.

Mezze Cookbook

I think my cookbook collections demonstrate that. They are my paths, stories, life. The recipes in the Mezze cookbook are some of the most prized recipes of my childhood, culture and family. It encompasses what I would watch my parents, aunties and grandparents cook to bring to our family gatherings. It was our connection to our culture and family ties.

Christmas and Easter Collection

The Christmas and Easter collection also reflect these traditions and memories. They help me instil moments I had as a child in my own children. These recipes give me opportunities to cook at my children’s school fete, bring the prized dishes such as pastitsio to our family events and have my children watch me do these things as I watched my parents get involved in my life through the food around us.

Salad Collection


As I moved onto creating the Salad Collection it demonstrates my enjoyment of sharing a meal as an adult over a barbecue with my friends. You can put the souvla on and make a salad to accompany it. It shows how my belief of how amazing just a simple salad made from scratch can be. It shows my love of watching the older generation grow and feast on their produce. Not only does that food on your plate tell a story but it too has a journey.

The Ultimate Detox For Your Thermomix

As I got further along my journey my eyes were open to looking at my health more holistically after having children. Through the struggle of having my first child and then and even deeper change when I had to go through an allergy clinic with my second. Once my eyes were open to the different world I live in to that of my childhood and even more so from my grandparents, I continued to explore this path to learn and grow with it. This holistic look at life created a path towards a detox and who better to work along this with than Dr Sandra Cabot. This lesson of resetting and listening to my body was one that has challenged me and that I’m blessed to continue to learn from.

My Gift To Convert and Preserve Recipes

Thankfully, I think I have learnt my biggest lessons through creating all of these books. That is that, there are some very talented cooks in the kitchen and their recipes need to be preserved. They may be the brilliant creators but it’s my gift to convert them so they can be cooked perfectly every time in a Thermomix.

But it’s more than just creating the sustainable recipes through converting them to be done in a Thermomix. I had a funny moment with a friend that really captured the bigger picture that I have to share with you to understand this. I was laughing with this friend and if you don’t know me well I have this super crazy wild laugh! Honestly, you have to hear it to fully understand what I’m talking about. Sorry, not sorry! They told me I was infectious! And I LOVED that. It explained it perfectly. I want to infect you with my love of food! Not just to eat but because it surrounds you with people, good times, memories, challenges and it should excite you like it does me! So that’s what this is about. An infectious food journey that I hope helps you find yours.

    I have now made miso salmon, ginger,garlic chilli chicken and pumpkin brocolini and partner has loved them both tonight I am doing tamari coleslaw and green beans with balsamic reduction which I made 2 days ago, also I have the raspberry vinegarette fermenting will finish it tomorrow to do sweet green salad thanks for the fabulous recipes

    I have made two items so far from the cook book. The traditional greek yogurt, so yummy and so easy. I was happy I could make it thicker than I usually buy it. I also made the rice pudding which was amazing and also very easy. I normally don’t like rice pudding so was very happy with the recipe. I’m looking forward to cooking all the other yummy recipes especially the cheeses and the souvlaki.
